Adapted books build language and vocabulary skills. Adapted books give those with very limited verbal communication an opportunity to participate more in class and feel that sense of inclusion and accomplishment.Adapted books help increase reading stamina, or the amount of time a student can focus and engage in text.

Adapted texts are texts that have the same content but are at different reading levels. Using adapted texts helps English learners continue to learn content while they are learning English. Many teachers create their own adapted texts, which allows them to control the vocabulary that is embedded.

Modified Texts are grade level reading passages that have been simplified both in language, length, and complexity to meet the instructional level needs of a reader.
