Adjust Currency Form For Free

In cell D2, type today's date and press Enter. Click cell D2 and verify that it is using a Date number format. Try changing it to a different date format (for example, Long Date). In cell D2, use the Format Cells dialog box to choose the 14-Mar-12 date format.

The Currency format aligns the dollar signs at the left edge of the number rather than the cell, and there is no extra space between the value and the right edge of the cell. Negative numbers are not displayed in parentheses, but they have a negative symbol, and zero values are displayed with an actual zero.

To do this, select the cells you want to format. Then, select Currency from the Number Format drop-down list in the Number section of the Home tab. The numbers in the selected cells are all formatted as currency with Windows' default currency symbol applied.
