Check whether any wires or cables to the phone or MTA are loose or unplugged.If a reboot doesn't resolve the problem, try plugging your phone directly into the Line 1 jack on the back of your MTA. If that improves your connection, you could have a problem with your phone wiring.

Try unplugging the phone and letting it sit for about 10 minutes. This should reset the phone. Try taking the battery out and then unplugging the base from the power and phone line.
