The definition of an annotation is an added note that explains something in a text. The definition of an archaic term in the Bible, listed on the bottom of the page, is an example of an annotation.

An annotation is a brief note following each citation listed on an annotated bibliography. The goal is to briefly summarize the source and/or explain why it is important for a topic. They are typically a single concise paragraph, but might be longer if you are summarizing and evaluating.

Underlining and HighlightingUnderlining or highlighting is the most straightforward method of annotation, as well as the least engaging. Marking certain words, phrases or sentences with a highlighter, pen or pencil can quickly identify key concepts of any text.

You can add an annotation to any time period. Once an annotation is created, a red marker appears in the header of the time period. If you hover over this red marker with your mouse, you can view a context box that displays the text of the annotation that was created.
