Scroll down and long-press the Settings widget, then place it on your home screen. You'll get a list of features that the Settings shortcut can access. Tap Notification Log. Tap the widget and scroll through your past notifications.

Open the Settings app on your phone and look for the Apps and Notifications setting. Inside there, tap on Notifications then select Advanced. Scroll to the bottom and select the Default notification sounds option. From there you can choose the notification tone you want to set for your phone.

You can blame the default Repeat Alerts setting in iOS for this. This is set to repeat alerts once for the Messages app, meaning you'll get a second alert for the same message two minutes after the first one. To avoid this repeated alert, you need to mark the message as read.
