Currency describes the money or official means of payment in a country or region. The best-known currencies include the U.S. dollar, euro, Japanese yen, British pound and Swiss franc.

Document currency is something you would see in a FI document, whereas transaction currency is part of a CO document. In finance documents you would talk about document currenty and local currency for instance.

The document currency is the currency of the transaction which depends on the structure of the transaction. In our example, we're legally obligated to pay 500 EUR. Thus our document currency is EUR. This currency is actually set on the document at the time of the transaction.

Document currency. The currency of the transaction. For example, if you purchase a chair from a supplier in Mexico, the document currency is probably the Mexican peso. Local currency. The currency in which the financial books, including the transaction, are closed.

The group currency is used as the global currency, which allows amounts to be compared in a single currency (currency type 30). You specify your group currency before you your system. The respective currency code applies for each client and consequently for all company codes and ledgers.

Transaction currency is a currency in which the client performs the payment. Initially, a transaction currency is the final currency in case of a conflict with the base currency. From USD to ILS, the demand for different currencies differs across the globe.

The U.S. dollar is the reporting currency. If Esso Australia reported AUD 1 million, it would convert that AUD 1 million into USD, which is approximately $750,000. ExxonMobil would then use the $750,000 figure in its consolidated financial reporting.
