If you instead want to move a footnote to another location in your document (or even in another document), you can use similar techniques. All you need to do is use Ctrl+X in step 2 instead of the noted Ctrl+C.

If you want your footnotes and endnotes to be numbered continuously from the beginning of your document to the end, select the Continuous option. If you'd prefer to have your notes numbered by chapter or section, select the Restart Each Section option. Or select Restart Each Page to number your notes by page.

If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on). For even more formatting options, click the Format button in the lower-left corner.

When you write footnotes, you can choose to format them at the bottom of the page (footnotes) or on a separate page at the end of the paper (endnotes). Place your endnotes after the reference list on a separate page with its own title: Endnotes. This is where you can list all your notes.

Move a footnote or an endnoteTo move or copy a note, you work with the note reference mark in the document window, not with the text of the note. Select the note reference mark. Drag the mark to the new location.
