If your documents contain footnotes or endnotes, you will have run into the concept of separators, which are the short (or long) lines Word inserts between your body text and the footnotes at the bottom of the page or the endnotes at the end of the document or section.

If a footnote or endnote overflows onto the next page, you can create a continuation notice to let readers know that a footnote or endnote is continued on the next page.

Footnotes (sometimes just called 'notes') are what they sound likea note (or a reference to a source of information) which appears at the foot (bottom) of a page. In a footnote referencing system, you indicate a reference by: Putting a small number above the line of type directly following the source material.

If you instead want to move a footnote to another location in your document (or even in another document), you can use similar techniques. All you need to do is use Ctrl+X in step 2 instead of the noted Ctrl+C.

To keep the footnote together in Word:Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles.Footnote Text.Click Modify.Click Format.Select Paragraph.Under Line and Page Breaks tab.Check box by Keep lines together.Click OK.

Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes pane, choose Footnote Continuation Notice. The current notice appears in the window. (Note that the notice might be originally blank, so you might not see anything in the window.) Change the notice as desired.
