In computer programming an assembly is a runtime unit consisting of types and other resources. All types in an assembly have the same version number. Often, one assembly has only one namespace and is used by one program. But it can span over several namespaces. Also, one namespace can spread over several assemblies.

What is the difference between a assembler and assembly? Assembly is a set of instructions, or we can say that it is a code that is executable in a machine, whereas the assembler is a compiler that converts the assembly code or the set of assembly code into machine code.

The difference between compiler and assembler is that a compiler is used to convert high-level programming language code into machine language code. On the other hand, an assembler converts assembly level language code into machine language code. Both these terms are relevant in context to program execution.

Compiler converts the source code written by the programmer to a machine level language. Assembler converts the assembly code into the machine code. Compiler input source code. Assembler input assembly language code. It converts the whole code into machine language at a time.

As with assembly language, a compiled language is translated directly into machine-readable binary code by a special program called a compiler. The result is a program file that can then be subsequently run without needing to refer to the human-readable source code.

Assembly and linking are the last steps in the compilation process they turn a list of instructions into an image of the program's bits in memory. Loading actually puts the program in memory so that it can be executed.

The compilation process can be divided into four steps, i.e., Pre-processing, Compiling, Assembling, and Linking. The preprocessor takes the source code as an input, and it removes all the comments from the source code. The preprocessor takes the preprocessor directive and interprets it.

Compiler software helps boost the program's performance and translates the intermediate file to an assembly file. Assembler helps convert the assembly file into an object file containing machine-level code. Linker is used for linking the library file with the object file.

The linking stage, illustrated in fig. 7, generates target specific executable code, called ByteCode, by assembling and translating pre-compiled code included in one or more ObjectCode modules. The Linker effectively generates an executable code file for a specific device.
