Apply a custom chart template to a new or an existing chart To apply the custom template to an existing chart, click on the chart, and then click Chart Design tab on the ribbon > click Change Chart Type > click Templates, and then select the custom template.

In your Word document, click Insert > Chart. Select the type of chart you want, such as column or pie chart, and click OK. (If you're not sure which to choose, move down the All Charts list to preview each type.) Enter your data into the spreadsheet that automatically opens with the chart.

Hold down the "Ctrl" key and click the second chart, so that both charts are selected at the same time. Click the "Page Layout" tab and then click the "Group" button in the Arrange area of the ribbon. A large box will surround both charts at once.

To link to the original Excel chart so that updates to the original data are reflected in the destination file, select Home > Paste > Use Destination Theme & Link Data. To embed the original chart so that you can edit it in place, select Home > Paste > Use Designation Theme & Embed Workbook.

In Excel, select the chart, and then press Ctrl+C or go to Home > Copy. In your Word document, click or tap where you want the chart to appear, and press Ctrl+V or go to Home > Paste. Note: The chart is linked to the original Excel spreadsheet. If data in the spreadsheet changes, the chart updates automatically.
