Under Header or Footer, on the pop-up menu, select (none).Go to Insert > Header & Footer.On the top right side of the document, select Options > Remove Headers & Footers.

Display the Insert tab of the ribbon. In the Header & Footer group, click either Header or Footer, depending on which one you want to change. Word displays a drop-down list of options. Click Edit Header or Edit Footer, depending on which tool you clicked in step 3.

Press Ctrl + A. Press F9. If your document has tables with fields or formulas, you might need to select each table separately and press F9. Tip: To make sure that you don't forget to update your table of contents before you print the document, set Word to update fields automatically before printing.

Remove page numbersGo to Insert > Page Number, and then choose Remove Page Numbers.If the Remove Page Numbers button isn't available or if some page numbers are still there, double-click in the header or footer, select the page number, and press Delete.

Simply double-click a header or footer to unlock it, which will allow you to edit it.

Edit your existing headers and footersDouble-click the header or footer you want to edit, or select Header or Footer, and then select Edit Header or Edit Footer.Add or change text for the header or footer or do any of the following:When you're done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.

Add a standard or customized header or footerGo to Insert > Header or Footer.Choose from a list of standard headers or footers, go to the list of Header or Footer options, and select the header or footer that you want.When you're done, select Close Header and Footer or press Esc.

To close the header or footer, select Close Header and Footer, or double-click anywhere outside the header and footer area.If you're not in Editing View, go to Edit Document > Edit in Word for the web.Go to Insert > Page Numbers.Choose Remove Page Numbers.

Go to Layout > Breaks > Next Page to create a section break. Double-click the header or footer area to open the Header & Footer tab. Select Link to Previous to turn off the link between the sections.
