Annotating is any action that deliberately interacts with a text to enhance the reader's understanding of, recall of, and reaction to the text. Sometimes called "close reading," annotating usually involves highlighting or underlining key pieces of text and making notes in the margins of the text.

If using a touchscreen device, go to an assignment and use your finger to press and drag the cursor to select the text. To highlight the selected text, hover over the highlighter icon and click on one of our six colors. If using a touchscreen device, simply tap on one of our six colors on the annotation tool.
