Block Out Footnote Notice For Free

If your documents contain footnotes or endnotes, you will have run into the concept of separators, which are the short (or long) lines Word inserts between your body text and the footnotes at the bottom of the page or the endnotes at the end of the document or section.

You must be in Draft view to do this (View tab > Draft). Once you're in Draft view, go to the References tab then click Show Notes. Change the Footnotes setting from All Footnotes to Footnote Separator. Place your cursor at the end of separator line, then press Delete to remove the empty paragraph below.

In the All Endnotes dropdown menu: a. Select Endnote Separator, highlight the line, and press Delete. b. Then select Endnote Continuation Separator, highlight the line, and press Delete.

Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes window, choose Footnote Separator. Word displays the current separator in the window. Change or delete the separator, as desired. When you are satisfied with the appearance of the separator, close the footnote window.

To keep the footnote together in Word:Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles.Footnote Text.Click Modify.Click Format.Select Paragraph.Under Line and Page Breaks tab.Check box by Keep lines together.Click OK.

Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes pane, choose Footnote Continuation Notice. The current notice appears in the window. (Note that the notice might be originally blank, so you might not see anything in the window.) Change the notice as desired.

Remove or change a footnote or endnote separator The Footnotes pane appears at the bottom of your document. You can edit the color or style of the separator by choosing options on the Home tab, or, to delete the separators, click Footnote Separator in the Footnotes list, and then select and delete the separator line.

In such cases, you can instead push the footnotes to the following page by setting the next page as the end of a section.Navigate to the page after the footnote and place the cursor at the end of the page.Press "Alt-I-B" to open the Break dialog box.Click the option button labeled "Continuous" and click "OK."More items...

Click the drop-down button to select Footnote Separator. Then click to have the separator in selection. Press either Backspace or Delete to remove the separator. And choose Footnote Continuation Separator then and delete it as well.
