Remove cell shadingSelect the cells that contain a fill color or fill pattern. For more information on selecting cells in a worksheet, see Select cells, ranges, rows, or columns on a worksheet.On the Home tab, in the Font group, click the arrow next to Fill Color, and then click No Fill.

Apply color to alternate rows or columnsSelect the range of cells that you want to format.Click Home > Format as Table.Pick a table style that has alternate row shading.To change the shading from rows to columns, select the table, click Design, and then uncheck the Banded Rows box and check the Banded Columns box.

In the format cells window, switch to the fill tab, and choose the color you want to use as the color to highlight the active row. Then click OK on the Format Cells window, and OK on the New Formatting Rule window. At this point, Row 1 should be highlighted with the color you selected.

Select the cells you want to apply conditional formatting to. Click the first cell in the range, and then drag to the last cell. Click HOME > Conditional Formatting > Highlight Cells Rules > Text that Contains. In the Text that Contains box, on the left, enter the text you want highlighted.

Right click and choose Format cells. Go to the Protection tab and uncheck Locked option and click Ok. Now select only the cells or columns, rows that you want to protect. Right click and choose Format cells again.
