The Think, Feel, Act Cycle is a framework that we can use to understand how and why we feel the way we do. And, it's also a tool that we can use to change the way we think and act. It has its origin in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which was originally developed to treat depression.

In January 2007, the government published Early Learning for Every Child Today: A Framework for Ontario Early Childhood Settings. This document was developed by the Best Start Expert Panel on Early Learning to help to improve quality and consistency in early childhood settings across Ontario.

Emotions occur unconsciously and mostly happen before the thought or feeling. A thought is something that we do in our mind, consciously, subconsciously, or unconsciously. We just don't know that we are thinking a thought until it becomes conscious.

ELECT helps clarify these developmental markers for each age group and shows the approximate skills they should be learning at each age group. The domains are Social, Emotional, Communication, language, and literacy, Cognitive, and Physical.

Thoughts are often opinions or assumptions - these are open to interpretation and modification. Feelings are often a product of our the way we are thinking about something - and are best modified through balanced thinking exercises or similar.

The Think-Feel-Act cycle is at the foundation of my coaching. It's a neuroscientific concept positing that how we think creates our feelings, and how we feel drives our actions. This is such a simple and effective tool, and understanding it will change your life forever.

The Continuum of Development identifies skills that are learned and practiced in play and gives examples of adult interactions that support early learning in the context of play. Knowledgeable, responsive early childhood professionals are essential.
