The right to use a registered brand may be sold, leased or transferred. Brand laws also specify where on the horse, cow or other livestock the brands can be placed.

For corporations that are filed manually, the corporate number is located in the top right hand corner of the first page of Articles of Incorporation. For corporations that are filed electronically, the corporation number is located near the middle of the page, under the corporation name.

In California, however, corporations receive seven-digit corporation numbers from the California Secretary of State or Franchise Tax Board, and LLCs receive a 12-digit corporate number. The company can then use this number to apply for an EIN. In most states, though, a corporate number is the equivalent of an EIN.

Brands are read from left to right, from the top down or from the outside to the inside. If a letter or symbol is made backwards from its normal position, it's read as a reverse. A letter partially over on its face or back is said to be tumbling.

Your Company Registration Number (CRN) is unique to your limited company or LLP. You can find it on your certificate of incorporation and any official documentation received from Companies House. Your CRN is also displayed on the public register of companies, which can be accessed online via Companies House Service.

How do I apply for a livestock brand? To apply for a brand, please complete the livestock brand application (new/amendment). You may design and submit no more than five (5) unique designs per application. The Department of Agriculture staff will not alter the designs submitted.

Brands: A hot or cold (freeze mark) brand may be found on various areas but is most commonly found on the hip or neck. Some brands are for breed or farm identification; others use numbers or symbols unique to each horse.
