The Secretary of the Treasury and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) redesign U.S. currency every 7 to 10 years for aesthetics and, more importantly, to deter counterfeiting and enhance security. Aesthetic features include artistry, symbols, monuments, and concepts that are intended to reinforce a theme.

Alexander Hamilton, the United States' first treasury secretary, will remain on the front of the $10 note. Lew had initially planned to replace Hamilton with a woman, but was met with backlash after the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical "Hamilton" fueled interest in the former secretary.

A strap is a package of 100 notes. All straps must contain 100 notes of the same denomination and must have only one band around them.

Current Schedule. The current denomination sequence and planned issuance dates have been in development with the Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence Committee since 2011: $10 (2026), $50 (2028), $20 (2030), $5 (2032) and $100 (2034). This sequence addresses risk mitigation and counterfeiting concerns.

In a history-making step, enslaved-liberator and abolitionist Harriet Tubman is scheduled to appear on the $20 dollar bill around 2030.

Working with the U.S. Treasury, a modest timeline has been set for select currency redesigns. The resign of the $10 bill is scheduled for 2026, followed by the redesign of the $50 bill slated for 2028 and, lastly, the redesign of $20 bill (which will include a portrait of Harriet Tubman) in 2030.

Founding Father and former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton's face is on the $10 bill. The first $10 bill issued by the Federal Reserve in 1914 had President Andrew Jackson's face. Hamilton's face was swapped in 1929, and Jackson moved to the $20 bill.

The new-design $10 note features subtle background colors of orange, yellow, and red. The $10 note includes an embedded security thread that glows orange when illuminated by UV light. When held to light, a portrait watermark of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton is visible from both sides of the note.
