Title catalogues refer the user of a library to the titles of books. They are particularly helpful to those readers who are more likely to remember the title of a publication than its author. Some readers use the title catalogue as a kind of subject catalogue.

Title proper is the chief name of a resource or a bibliographic item, usually found on the preferred sources of information. It is the title which is normally used when citing the resource.

There are three types of inner forms of a catalogue, viz. alphabetical, classified and alphabetico-classed. Author, Name, Title, Subject and Dictionary catalogue fall in the category of an alphabetical catalogue. A Classified Catalogue is so named because it is arranged in a classified order.
