Receive Your Benefit Payments It takes at least three weeks to process a claim for unemployment benefits and issue payment to most eligible workers. When your first benefit payment is available, you will receive a debit card in the mail. Once you activate the card you can track, use, and transfer your benefit payments.

Payment information is updated daily at 6 a.m. (Pacific time). If you submit your certification by phone, your payment will generally be deposited on to your EDD Debit CardSM within 24 hours. Note: If you submitted your certification by mail and/or requested your benefit payments by check, allow 10 days for processing.

Call 1-866-333-4606 to use EDD Tele-Cert. You must certify for benefits every two weeks. This option is recommended.

Submit on Time We recommend that you certify for benefits with UI Online because it is a fast, convenient, and a secure way to certify. You can also certify by phone using EDD Tele-CertSM at 1-866-333-4606.

If your unemployment claim is denied, you will receive a Notice of Determination from the California Employment Development Department (EDD). The determination will explain why your claim was denied and provide information on the appeals process.
