WhatsApp requires your phone number to start the service and this contact number can be seen by anyone added in our contact list. Unfortunately, there is no way to hide your phone number on WhatsApp. The app requires your valid phone number to let you login into the service.

It will not be updated to all the contacts that appear on your WhatsApp contact list. But a notification will appear in all the chats you have had. When you change your number on WhatsApp, WhatsApp posts a notification: "1234567890 (i.e. your current number) changed to 0987654321(your new number)".

After inserting the required old and new phone numbers, WhatsApp will ask which contacts have to be notified about your new number. Note that also if you don't want to notify your contacts, all your groups will be notified regardless.
