Generally, a watermark should:Be placed in a descreet area of the image that does not interfere with the view of the image, but will make it more difficult to remove or clone out. Have limited text. If the watermark is small, then having text will be all but near impossible to read.

First, create your custom watermark. On the Design tab, select Watermark > Custom Watermark. Choose Picture Watermark and select a picture, or choose Text watermark and type your watermark text in the Text box. Click OK.

The most common position of a watermark is in the bottom right corner. This way it doesn't take away the attention from your image. However, if you position your watermark in any of four corners, it makes it easier for thieves to crop it out. Watermarks are secure only if you use them properly.

If you need to edit the watermark, Go to the Page Layout tab, in the Page Background group, click Custom Watermark. Replace the current text with the new text that you would like to have displayed. Click Apply, then Close. You new watermark will be displayed.

If it's a text watermark, you'll have the WordArt Tools tab available, and if it's a picture, you'll see the Picture Tools tab when the watermark is selected. If it's a text watermark, you can drag it to change its position on the page, but no other editing. If it's a picture, right-click and choose Format Picture.

In the dialog, select Text watermark, select the text you want (CONFIDENTIAL), select Diagonal or Horizontal, and (this is the important part), clear the check box for Semitransparent. Instead of choosing one of the watermarks in the gallery, choose Custom Watermark... to open the Printed Watermark dialog.
