So, be careful not to expose your notes to high levels of either natural or artificial light. Framed works should always be mounted so that there is an air space between the glass and the note. The note should not be in direct contact with the glass.

There are a few different grading scales, but most agree that the higher the grade, the more valuable the coin. While it is not necessary to grade every coin in your collection, grading some of your more valuable pieces may be worth it in order to ensure that you are getting what you expect for them.

A banknotes grade is generally determined by crispness (Rigid, not limp paper), brightness, and depth of color. Other factors that are taken into consideration include centering of the printed area, artificially suppressed folds, repairs, and pinholes.

Banknotes are generally made of cotton paper. Sometimes cotton is mixed with linen, abaca or other types of fibres to increase its life. The paper used is more durable than everyday paper which makes it resistant to wear and tear.

There are three main printing processes used to produce US banknotes: offset lithography, intaglio and letterpress. The first pass of the notes are printed on an offset lithographic KBA Simultan press, where the face and back of the note are printed simultaneously.
