Captions. In written reports, titles are not used on figures or tables; instead, the information is placed in a caption. Captions for tables are placed above the table (typically left aligned), and captions for figures are placed below the figure.

Guidelines for Tables Your table title should include details of what your figure is presenting, including the variables, statistics, significance level, and sample size. Lines: Use only essential horizontal lines; remove vertical lines and unessential horizontal lines (easily done in both MS Excel and Word).

Show or hide a data table Select a chart and then select the plus sign to the top right. To show a data table, point to Data Table and select the arrow next to it, and then select a display option. To hide the data table, uncheck the Data Table option.

Table captions should appear above the associated table. Figure captions should appear below the associated figure. Unless formatted as a multi-page table or figure (with a ?Continued? caption ? see below instructions), the entire caption must appear on the same page as the associated table or figure.
