Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element > Chart Title, and then click the title option that you want. Type the title in the Chart Title box. To format the title, select the text in the title box, and then on the Home tab, under Font, select the formatting that you want.

Titling the Graph The proper form for a graph title is "y-axis variable vs. x-axis variable." For example, if you were comparing the the amount of fertilizer to how much a plant grew, the amount of fertilizer would be the independent, or x-axis variable and the growth would be the dependent, or y-axis variable.

The only way to change the size of a chart title is to change the font size. Manual resizing is not possible in chart titles (and never was). If you want more control over the chart title, you can manually insert a text box, which can be sized and formatted as you like.

In a chart you create, axis labels are shown below the horizontal (category, or "X") axis, next to the vertical (value, or "Y") axis, and next to the depth axis (in a 3-D chart). Your chart uses text from its source data for these axis labels.
