All third-round stimulus checks have been sent out, the IRS announced Wednesday. If you haven't received all of the money you are eligible for, you will need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return. The third stimulus checks were technically advance payments of that credit.

This year, the IRS is mailing two letters Letter 6419 and Letter 6475 to qualifying Americans.The other letter, Letter 6475, relates to the third stimulus payment and includes how much you received in stimulus money last year.

In this case, the IRS will send you a paper check for the entire refund instead of a direct deposit. You incorrectly enter an account or routing number and the number passes the validation check, but your designated financial institution rejects and returns the deposit to the IRS.

Letter 6475 (third economic impact or stimulus payment): Late in January, the IRS will begin issuing letters to people who received a third payment in 2021. This letter will say Your Third Economic Impact Payment near the top and Letter 64752033 on the bottom righthand side of the page.

You'll need to request any missing third stimulus payments on your 2021 tax return by claiming the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit. This is the case if you received a partial amount (less than the full stimulus payment amount of $1,400) or didn't previously qualify for the third stimulus payment.

You will need the Economic Impact Payment amount you received as stated in the letter from the IRS Notice 1444-C for your 3rd Stimulus payment. If you DID NOT receive, for any reason, the third stimulus payment, enter a 0 - as in number zero - on the Recovery Rebate Page on your 2021 Tax Return.
