Scroll down until you see the Page Layout options (Compatibility Options in Word 2019 and Word in Office 365). It is at the very bottom of the dialog box; you may need to click the arrow at the left side of the options to see them all. Make sure the Split Apart Page Break and Paragraph Mark check box is selected.

Display or hide page breaks in Normal viewClick the File tab > Options. To remove a page break you added in manually, click the Home tab. Click Show/Hide ¶ to display the page breaks in your document. Find the manual page break you want to remove and double click the page break to highlight it. Finally, hit the Delete or Backspace key to remove it.

Viewing page breaks To view manual page breaks, paragraph marks and other non-printing characters in Microsoft Word: Click the Home tab in the Ribbon. Click Show/Hide ¶ in the Paragraph group Paragraph marks, tabs, spacing and manual page breaks will display but will not print.
