Barbecuing is not permitted in the following areas: athletic fields, playgrounds, woodlands (North Woods, the Ramble, Hallett Nature Sanctuary), landscapes that are fenced off, the Conservatory Garden, and high trafficked areas. Picnic Permits & ReservationsPermits are only needed if you have 20 or more people in your group. If you have less than 20 people, you are not required to have a permit; however, it is the only way to guarantee that your desired location will be available.

Things to Know Before You Apply. Special Events permits cost $25 to process, and the fee cannot be waived waived (except when requesting an NYC Parks group volunteer project).

Reserve a Court in Person or by Phone2 on Mondays-Fridays from a.m. to p.m. to make a reservation. Please allow two weeks for delivery. You may also visit the Central Park Tennis Center on the day you want to play, and walk in to use a court. All courts are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

From the smallest birthday party to the largest concert, special events take place every day in New York City parks. If you want to have any activity in a City park with more than 20 people, or where you would like to reserve a specific area within a park, you need to apply for a special event permit.

Central Park does not allow camping of any kind.Tents, hammocks, open flames or grills are not permitted anywhere in Central Park.

In city parks, a permit is required for any public or private event on parkland where more than 20 people are expected to attend, or to reserve a specific park location (even with fewer than 20 people).
