The datatype for currency is MONEY. the money datatype will store the information only, without the format: in your example the information is 11.23 so that's what is saved into the database. the $ sign is part of the format so it will not be stored into the money field.

When you apply the Currency format to a field, Access displays a currency symbol and two values after the decimal point, but it does not change the field's data type.

Right-click the field, go to "Default Properties", then "Number Format". The calculated field you've selected is a string. Try to change it so it gives a numeric output. worked perfectly!

Access opens the table in Datasheet view. Select the field (the column) that you want to change. On the Fields tab, in the Properties group, click the arrow in the drop-down list next to Data Type, and then select a data type. Save your changes.
