A business code of ethics, usually based on the core values of the business, outlines the company mission statement, how professionals should approach dilemmas and the standards to which they hold their employees. An individual's code of ethics can include their beliefs, values and background.

This revised Code is based on the 2018 edition of Code of Ethics issued by International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA). IESBA is the ethics standards setting Committee of IFAC.

One of the most important things to include in your code of ethics is a list of the company's core values or ethical standards. These guide the entire document, setting the ethical and cultural tone for the company. You can use these values as an outline for the policy.

The six elements that must be in place to support a code of ethics in a company are respect, fairness, care, trust, responsibility, and goodness. Respect is a critical aspect that enforces a code of ethics.

The Code of Ethics is a guiding force to the members of the profession and today the professionals act totally on the principles enunciated in the Code of Ethics. It is not for getting the examination passed and acquiring the qualification but it is required to be followed in line and spirit.

The Council of ICAI has decided that the provisions, namely, Responding to Non-Compliance with Laws and Regulations (NOCLAR) (Sections 260 and 360), contained in Volume I of the Code of Ethics, 2019, the applicability of which was deferred earlier, be made applicable and effective from 1st April, 2022.

Honorable mentions include adding that your business celebrates diversity, green practices, and proper dress codes.

The principles are beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy, justice; truth-telling and promise-keeping.
