Creating new Tags To create a new Tag, click the ?Add Tag?? option at the end of the drop-down menu. This will open up the Tag Manager in the Inspector. The Tag Manager is described here. Layers appear similar to Tags, but are used to define how Unity should render GameObjects in the Scene.

Use a collider and mark it as a trigger. In the inspector, you will see the collider component with an isTrigger check box, make sure that is checked. Then just below the game object name, in the inspector, there is a drop down menu named ?Tag?, click that and choose add new tag.

Tags are attributes containing keys and optional values that you can apply to different securable objects in Unity Catalog. Tagging is useful for organizing and categorizing different securable objects within a metastore. Using tags also simplifies search and discovery of your data assets.

The maximum number of tags you can define in the tag inspector is 10001. Clearly instantiating more than 10k objects is not a good idea (but possible) it is technically possible for you to tag most objects differently - however, given that you have to manually create each tag in the tag inspector this becomes unwieldy.

CompareTag check to see if the tag actually exists and Unity will throw an error if it doesn't. Just comparing string won't do that.

To add a new Tag, click the plus button (+) at the bottom-right of the list, and name your new Tag. Note that once you have named a Tag, you cannot rename it. To remove a Tag, click on it and then click the minus (-) button at the bottom-right of the list.
