Compile Footnote Resolution For Free

Footnotes are found at the bottom of the page and don't take up much of the page space in most instances. While it's relatively easy to exclude footnotes from a word count, it's much more difficult to exclude them from a page count.

Please try clicking on the Review tab of the Ribbon, then on the Accept icon and choosing Accept All Changes in Document. On the same tab make sure Track Changes is switched to OFF. If there are any comments, right-click on each one and choose Delete. Then your footnotes should update correctly.

To convert all footnotes or endnotes: Open the document and select the References tab. Click the Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box launcher (it appears as a small square in the bottom-right corner of the tab). Then click Convert.... Click OK or Apply.

Once you're in Draft view, go to the References tab then click Show Notes. Change the Footnotes setting from All Footnotes to Footnote Separator. Place your cursor at the end of separator line, then press Delete to remove the empty paragraph below. Click the X at the far right of the Footnotes mini window to close it.

A footnote is a reference placed at the bottom of a page or footer. They are referenced in the text in the same way as a citation i.e. the referenced text is followed by a superscript numeral (1), which corresponds to the numbered footnote at the bottom of the page.

When in Draft mode, you need to click on Show Notes in the Footnotes section of the References tab of the ribbon and then select the Footnote Separator from the dropdown at the top of the footnotes pane and format the paragraph to remove the space before it. Was this reply helpful?

Click anywhere inside any footnote in the document. Press Ctrl+A to select all footnotes, but only footnotes (Figure B). Press F9 to update any fields in all the selected footnotes and click Yes to see the updated fields, as shown in Figure C.
