Compile Footnote Text For Free

Do not place multiple footnotes at the same point in your text (e.g. 1, 2, 3). If you need to cite multiple sources in one sentence, you can combine the citations into one footnote, separated by semicolons: 1.

In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and author's name along with other information related to the type of citation.

To convert all footnotes or endnotes: Open the document and select the References tab. Click the Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box launcher (it appears as a small square in the bottom-right corner of the tab). Then click Convert.... Click OK or Apply.

To keep the footnote together in Word: Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles. Footnote Text. Click Modify. Click Format. Select Paragraph. Under Line and Page Breaks tab. Check box by Keep lines together. Click OK.

You're able to reference footnotes multiple times in Microsoft Word by using cross-references. However, cross-references have a minor limitation if you insert another footnote above the original one, the footnote number will update, automatically, immediately, but the cross-reference number will not.

Click anywhere inside any footnote in the document. Press Ctrl+A to select all footnotes, but only footnotes (Figure B). Press F9 to update any fields in all the selected footnotes and click Yes to see the updated fields, as shown in Figure C.

Under 'Insert reference to' select 'Footnote number (formatted)' Under 'For which footnote' select the appropriate footnote you need to cross reference. Click 'Insert' Click 'Close'

Create Footnotes and Endnotes Place your cursor where you want to insert the footnote or endnote. Click the References tab. Click the Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote button. A reference number is placed in the text, and a new footnote or endnote is created.Type your footnote or endnote.

Click the Format button at the bottom left of the dialog and choose Paragraph in the menu. In the Paragraph dialog, set the Special dropdown to "Hanging" and enter the amount by which the second and later lines should move to the right. For most fonts, 0.1" is about right.

Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
