Open the Story on your smartphone. Tap the Highlight button at the bottom of the screen. Choose the Highlight you want to save the Story toeither a new or existing one. Hit Save and preview the new Highlight on your Instagram profile.

There a few hacks you can use to add Highlights, without having to add the content to your Story. Switch your Instagram profile to Private, in your general Settings. Go to your privacy Story Settings, and Block all users from seeing your Stories. Upload the Story you want to add to the Highlight.

If you want to add a story from your gallery or camera roll directly to your Highlights, this wouldn't be possible because Instagram only allows you to share a highlight based on what you've uploaded on Instagram stories and left for a full 24 hours.

Highlights are displayed on your profile in chronological order. So every time you add a new Story to one of your Highlights, that Highlight will be moved to the front of the order. If you want to move a Highlight up to the front, simply add a new Story to it following the instructions laid out above.

Instagram currently doesn't allow users to directly reorder their story highlights. But, what you can do instead is to edit a certain highlight by adding a random new story to it. The IG story highlight will then move to the beginning of the row. Just don't forget to remove the random story you added.

Once you're done, your highlight will appear as a circle on your profile that plays as a stand-alone story when someone taps it.
