Create Footnotes and Endnotes Place your cursor where you want to insert the footnote or endnote. Click the References tab. Click the Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote button. A reference number is placed in the text, and a new footnote or endnote is created.Type your footnote or endnote.

On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Header & Footer. Excel displays the worksheet in Page Layout view. To add or edit a header or footer, click the left, center, or right header or footer text box at the top or the bottom of the worksheet page (under Header, or above Footer). Under Location, click Footnotes or Endnotes, and then on the Footnotes or Endnotes pop-up menu, click the location that you want. On the References tab of the ribbon, click on the Dialog Launcher at the right hand end of the Footnotes caption bar in the ribbon to display the Footnote and Endnote dialog. In that dialog, you can set the numbering as either Continuous or to start at a specific number on each page, or in each Section of the document.

Click the "Home" tab. Click the small "Down Arrow" in the bottom right corner of the Font section of the ribbon. Click on the "Superscript" box to insert a check mark, then click OK. The footnote takes on the traditional, small and slightly higher appearance compared to normal text.

To cite multiple sources of the same kind in the same footnote, put the sources in chronological order with the oldest first, separating them with a semi-colon.

To cite one reference: Place your cursor in the Excel table at the point where you wish to enter the citation (remember to leave an empty spaces if an empty space between table text and the citation is desired). Type two, beginning-curly-Q brackets ( {{ ), type the RefID number for the reference you wish to cite,
