On August 30, 2022, the federal court for the Northern District of Georgia granted final approval to a class-action settlement in a suit accusing prison telecom giant Global Tel*Link (GTL) of unjust enrichment by seizing funds from prisoner phone accounts after as little as 90 days of inactivity.

The Defendants will pay a total of $32.15 million (less attorneys' fees and other expenses) to those members of the Class who are eligible to receive a payment from the Settlement. These funds will be distributed to the eligible Class Members through a ?Plan of Distribution? that has been approved by the Court.

GTL will credit or refund 100% of the amount that GTL retained from your account due to inactivity. Payments to former customers may be reduced if the total credits/ refunds exceed the available Settlement fund.

The account holder will be able to request a refund for any unused balance of funds. If GTL receives no contact from the account holder after 180 days from the posting of the inactivity notification, the account will be closed and ineligible for a refund. GTL hasn't admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve these class action lawsuit allegations with a $67 million settlement. Under the terms of the settlement, GTL will reimburse consumers for 100 percent of any fund the company retained from inactive accounts.
