Consolidation and reconsolidation refer to transient memory stabilization processes: while consol- idation processes stabilize newly acquired memories, reconsolidation processes restabilize reactivated, i.e., retrieved, established memories.

Full consolidation, proportionate consolidation, and equity consolidation are the three consolidation methods. The consolidation process in accounting is used when the parent owns more than 50% of the subsidiary, while the equity method is used when the parent owns 20 to 50% of the subsidiary.

When the rate of densification is controlled by the time required for expulsion of fluids, this volume change is called primary consolidation. Secondary consolidation is the volume change controlled by anything else, such as the sliding of particles over each other or compression of particles.

To distinguish between the two mechanisms, "primary consolidation" refers to consolidation due to dissipation of excess water pressure, while "secondary consolidation" refers to the creep process.

In contrast, systems consolidation, which is the primary focus of this review, refers to gradual reorganization of the brain systems that support memory, a process that occurs within long-term memory itself (Squire and Alvarez 1995; Dudai and Morris 2000; Dudai 2012).

If the current state of soil is on the normal compression line it is said to be normally consolidated. If the soil is unloaded it becomes overconsolidated. (Soil cannot usually be at a state outside the normal compression line unless it is bonded or structured).

Memory consolidation takes probably about 5?10 minutes and consolidation is completed after about 1 hour or so ? and it has been shown that if protein synthesis is blocked in animals during the acquisition of LTM then the formation of LTM is prevented (Guyton 2008, p. 726).
