Definition. The release strategy defines the approval process for purchase requisitions. The strategy specifies the release codes with which a complete purchase requisition or a requisition item must be released (approved) and the sequence in which approvals have to be given.

In the purchase order which is required to be released by a higher level user, there will be a Release Strategy tab on header of the PO document. In this tab, system shows all the levels of release codes who are involved in approving the purchase order.

A release procedure in SAP can be used to define the conditions (for example total value exceeds USD 10,000) for the approval (release) of a purchase order before it can be processed further. For the SAP user, this is visible on the 'Release strategy' tab of the Purchase Order display screen.
