To insert a footnote automatically in a Word document: Click on the point in the text where the footnote should appear. Select the References tab at the top and then click on Insert Footnote Type the text you want into the footnote that appears at the bottom of the page.

Add a superscript number in the table's repeating heading (instead of the current footnote reference). Go to the footer and add the same superscript number, plus the "footnote" text (plus an optional border above). This will cause it to appear at the bottom of every page in the section containing the table.

Place the cursor at the end to text you want to refer in Footnote again. Go to Insert Tab and select Cross-reference. In the Cross-reference window, from Reference type select Footnote & from Insert reference to select Footnote number (formatted) or Footnote number.
