To add columns to a document: Select the text you want to format. Select the Layout tab, then click the Columns command. A drop-down menu will appear. Select the number of columns you want to create. The text will format into columns.

Click the list, library, or other app to which you want to add a custom column. In the Library ribbon, click the Create Column button. In the Name and Type section of the Create Column dialog box, type the custom column's name in the "Column name:" field and use the radio buttons to choose the column type.
