Right-click any column header, and then click Unhide Fields on the shortcut menu. In the Unhide Columns dialog box, select the check box next to each column that you want to show, and then click Close.

Sometimes when you create queries, you need to add a field to the QBE grid for criteria purposes only. In this case, you don't want the field itself to appear in the result set. Having additional fields appear in the result set can slow down query performance.

If you want to make it inactive, you click on the field in design view, go to its properties dialog box, then click the Data tab, and select Enabled = No. This will grey it out.
