If it's absolutely necessary to express a date in numerical date format, use the format YYYY-MM-DD, and separate the elements by using hyphens. This conforms to ISO 8601 international standards for numerical date format. In a content draft or design spec if you're adding a fictional date, choose a day greater than 12.

The full ISO8601 datetime format is as follows: YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS+ZZ:ZZ. The date design pattern, uses only the year, month, and day of the month of that format: YYYY-MM-DD.
