A header is the top margin of each page, and a footer is the bottom margin of each page. Headers and footers are useful for including material that you want to appear on every page of a document such as your name, the title of the document, or page numbers.

A header is text that is placed at the top of a page, while a footer is placed at the bottom, or foot, of a page. Typically these areas are used for inserting document information, such as the name of the document, the chapter heading, page numbers, creation date and the like.

Insert a header or footer Go to Insert > Header or Footer. Create different headers or footers Double-click the header or footer. Select Different Odd & Even Pages. On one of the odd pages, select the header or footer area you want to change. Type the document title, and then press Tab twice. Select Page Number > Current Position and choose a style. Select an even page.
