The basic format for documentation comments is XML. When the compiling code with documentation comments, the compiler may optionally emit an XML file that represents the sum total of the documentation comments in the source. This XML file can then be used by other tools to produce printed or online documentation.

Only use comments for code snippets that are hard to understand or need clarification. Keep comments simple: remember their purpose. They should precisely describe what a portion of code does. Don't be rude or mean in your comments.

Documentation comments are similar to C# single-line comments, but start with /// (that's three slashes), and can be applied to any user-defined type or member. As well as containing descriptive text, these comments can also include embedded XML tags.
