When you enter an invoice, by default, the due date is set to 30 days. This cannot be changed from the invoice, it can only be changed from the customer record.

To be more clear, state: '30 days from date of invoice issue'. State the due date in full. This means day, month and year. Simply putting the month or the day leaves your due date open to unwelcome interpretation.

How do I verify an invoice? To verify an invoice, you need to match the invoice with the purchase order, delivery receipt, the standard sales tax, and the discounts agreed upon. This may take an hour, especially if the invoice has been stacked for a while.

For good bookkeeping, it's better to void a transaction, when you can, rather than delete it so you keep a record of the transaction. You can delete all transaction types in QuickBooks, but you can only void certain transaction types.

Most companies don't realise that they are entitled to chase invoices that go back as far as 6 years. It is important to remember that the time limit starts from when your customer last acknowledged owing the debt or made a payment on account against the invoice, not from when the invoice became due.
