If the author is known only by initials, treat the initials as one unit. Use the initials in your in-text citation and list the entry under the first initial in your Works Cited page.

Use either the Edit & Manage Citation(s) function from the EndNote toolbar in Word, or right click, and select Edit Citation(s). Go to More to get the full options. Change the Format to Exclude Author.

In-text reference Include each first author's initial(s) in all citations. Do this for the first author only when there are multiple authors in a single reference. Initial(s) are included even if year of publication differs.

On the Document Elements tab, under References, click Manage. In the Citations List, select the citation that you want to edit. , and then click Edit Source. Make the changes that you want, and then click OK.

The APA Style format for author names in reference list entries is to provide the author's surname(s) followed by the initials of their given name(s). Example: Lee, C. L. (2017).

For the Reference List: author's surname (family name) and initials. The family name must be written in full and initials used to represent given (first) names. You only need to provide initials for the first and middle names, but do include initials for all middle names provided by the source.

Editing reference styles In EndNote, go to the Tools menu. Go to Output Styles and select Open Style Manager. Locate the style you wish to edit and click to highlight it. Click on the Edit button. Select the part of the style you wish to edit from the menu on the left, such as:Edit as necessary in the right hand pane.

For a work with no date, use ?n.d.? in both the reference list entry and the in-text citation.

Uncheck the box that reads Include author initials or full name in citation. On the left-hand side again, under Citations, select Author Name. Uncheck the box that reads Use initials only for primary authors with the same name. Close the edit window.

To display only author last names in the library reference window, change the ?Display all authors in the Author field? setting. Go to the EndNote toolbar, select Edit > Preferences > Display Fields then uncheck ?Display all authors in the Author field? (see attached image).
