Failure to surrender a valid license plate when your insurance is cancelled or expires will result in suspension of your driver license. When you dispose of a plate by turning it into a tax collector's office you will receive a receipt showing that the plate was surrendered.

All refund applications must be submitted prior to the expiration of the registration period. The refund is only for the registration fee. If you have not cancelled your registration; DMV will cancel your registration and process the refund.

Any plates that are not being used should be returned to the Department of Motor Vehicles as soon as possible. If the plates are not returned or cancelled they are listed as active until they expire and will continue to generate a tax bill.

If you do not turn in your plate(s), we will suspend your registration and can suspend your driver license.

ALL UNUSED LICENSE PLATES SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES, WHERE YOU WILL BE GIVEN A RECEIPT. Return your Connecticut plates to the DMV, 60 State St., Wethersfield, CT 06161 and request a receipt.

Continuing Education and Renewal Requirements must be completed every 2 years, on or before their Expiration Date, which is the last day of the licensee's birth month. Agents licensed in multiple lines are only required to meet the same requirements as agents with single lines of licensing.

The expiry date of your photocard licence is shown on the front of the photocard at section 4b. If your licence has expired, you should not drive until you have applied to renew the licence.
