Searching for Footnote and Endnote Marks Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f.Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.

Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.

The message 'Continues on next page' is what you inserted as your 'Footnote Continuation Notice'. This will be displayed at the end of the footnote if the footnote itself is too long to be displayed at the end of the same page and has to be continued on the next page.

In the All Endnotes dropdown menu: a. Select Endnote Separator, highlight the line, and press Delete. b. Then select Endnote Continuation Separator, highlight the line, and press Delete.

Regardless of where you place footnotes, it is possible that a long footnote could overrun the space allocated for footnotes. In such an instance, Word automatically continues the footnote on the following page.
