UHCs are trace amounts of hazardous chemicals (listed in 40 CFR 268.48) found in some hazardous wastes that do not in and of themselves cause the waste to be hazardous, but must be treated before the waste is deposited in a landfill.

Very small quantity generators of hazardous waste are not required by federal EPA to obtain an EPA ID number or submit a notification form, but may be subject to state-specific reporting requirements. All generators should consult with their state agencies to clarify the specific reporting requirements for that state.

The LDR program found in 40 CFR Part 268 requires waste handlers to treat hazardous waste or meet specified levels for hazardous constituents before disposing of the waste on the land.

Whether it's a notification or certification, the LDR paperwork must include: The hazardous waste codes that need to be treated for; The treatability group for each waste (e.g., wastewaters vs. non-wastewaters);

Subtitle D landfills include the following: Municipal Solid Waste Landfills (MSWLFs) ? Specifically designed to receive household waste, as well as other types of nonhazardous wastes. Bioreactor Landfills ? A type of MSWLF that operates to rapidly transform and degrade organic waste.

This number, issued either by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA ID Number), or by DTSC (California ID Number), identifies each handler of hazardous waste on hazardous waste manifests and other paperwork.
