If you would like to change the original amount issued on the invoice, you'll need to issue a credit note. This occurs in cases where you forgot to include a discount, or you need to issue a refund to someone for damaged goods.

If you realise your invoice is incorrect before you've actually sent it to your customer, then the problem can easily be solved. You can simply edit the invoice and fix the error. An invoice is not considered ?issued? if it hasn't yet been delivered to the addressee.

Go into your original invoice and set it to edit. You will want to immediately adjust the invoice number and save the file as the revised so you have a copy of both. Adjust the date of the revised invoice. Format any changes to the original invoice as needed based on unit cost and tax pricing.

If a business makes a mistake on an invoice they have already sent to their customer, they must cancel the invoice with a credit note and then issue a new invoice. The credit note essentially 'pays' the incorrect invoice so there is no outstanding payment.

To adjust the amount of an invoice: Find the invoice. See: Finding Invoices. In the Invoices window change the Invoice Amount. Choose Distributions to navigate to the Distributions window.Choose Scheduled Payments to navigate to the Scheduled Payments window.Save your work.

To correct a mistake on a handwritten invoice you have already given to a customer, write a corrected version, mail it with a note explaining the correction, and keep copies of both the incorrect and corrected invoices.
