The best resolution for printing is 300 PPI with placed images at 100% or smaller. Increasing the size of an image will lower its final PPI. At 300 PPI, an image will appear sharp and crisp. This is considered to be high resolution or high-res.

For the average photographer, 1200 dpi is excellent. These specs are within reach of most printers on the market. When a printer prints above 1200 dpi, it's nearly impossible to see any difference in the prints. There are exceptions.

If you need high quality output, choose a higher number. Please note that doing so reduces the print speed. There are three levels of print output, 600 dpi, Class 1200 dpi, and True 1200 dpi. True 1200 dpi provides high quality, precise printing, but requires more memory and slows the printing speed.

Low Resolution Images Images used on the internet are typically 72 dpi. This is a suitable resolution for websites since it enables a small file size and does not look visibly pixelated on most computer screens. However, images at 72 dpi will ALWAYS look pixelated and low-resolution when printed.

Generally, 300dpi is a high-res print and 1200 dpi is ultra high-res beyond what is often used even for extremely detailed fine art applications.

Select Start > Settings . Go to Devices > Printers & scanners > select a printer > Manage. Then select Set as default. If you don't see the Set as default option, the Let Windows manage my default printer option may be selected.
